Connecting a map with Google Earth

There are different programs to display and manipulate maps, among them ArcGIS (Arcmap, Arcview), Manifold, CADcorp, AutoCAD, Microstation, at GIS level, before we saw some Take advantages...

1. Download bookstores

First of all, if we have not done so we must download the image server applications, from the Discharge zone Because they usually do not come with the license.

  • 64bitImageServers.exe (111 KB) - for versions in 64 bits.
  • ImageServersPack.zip (16 KB) – for 32-bit versions. Both contain the .dll files needed to connect to Microsoft Virtual Earth, Yahoo streets/maps, and Google Earth/maps. Once downloaded, place them in the “program files/manifold system/” folder. These tools, according to Manifold's friends, are not theirs but from Georeference.org, the community where they were developed; Over time it has been mentioned that the tools work, but that Google has juggled to deny access; I recommend for this to keep abreast of that community.2. Connect to IMS servers

    First we open the map or component, and we move to the area that interests us to synchronize (you can assign coordinates, but it is more practical in this way)

    Once we are in the deployment that interests us, we select “file/link/image” and choose “manifold image servers”

    • The window allows us to choose between the options of Google maps / satellite, Google maps / street, Virtual Earth / satellite, Virtual Earth maps / street and Yahoo maps / street. In our case we will choose Google maps / satellite image.
    • If you have a paid license from Google Earth (Pro or Enterprise) You can choose a url for a better resolution, otherwise, we leave the one that appears by default.
    • In the “scale” field, we choose the pixel size we want, which can range from 1 meter to 160 km. It is clear that the closer the display, the better the resolution of the image.
    • In order for the system to capture the extent we have, we click the refresh button.
    • In case we want Manifold to cache the deployment we must check that option and the proxy button is to macar in case our intranet has it.
    • Then we click the “ok” button

    2. Assigning projection to the image service

    In the case of Google Earth, the download comes with a cylindrical Standard UTM (mercator) projection with WGS84 datum. It is necessary to assign this projection, with the right button “assign”

    The "assign or change" projection thing is a bit of a pain, so it's best not to use change.

    3. Displaying the IMS on the map

    For this, we only drag it inside a "map", like any other component, which is a similarity of arcmap layer, to see it behind the maps it is necessary to drag it in the lower tabs, behind the one we want, and assign transparency to the front map.

    4. Save the georeferenced image

    For this, just right click on the component, and export, it can be stored in different formats, recommended .ecw for its compactness. To bring the image, you do “import/image” and after it has been imported, you always have to assign it a projection. Let's not forget to assign it the initial Google projection (standard, cylindrical mercator wgs84), now you can change projection to taste, for example UTM zone 16 north, wgs84

  • To do this: right mouse button on the object marked above in red and assign it “Universal traverse mercator/zone 16N/Datum wgs84” which in this case is the zone of Honduras.

    ... eye, this is another way of georeferencing downloaded images ... without battling the perverse as it showed in another post with Microstation or with AutoCAD.

    1. I have been reading in the Manifold forum, and apparently Google has changed the way of accessing the data so it seems that no one is being able to connect. Manifold people have not made sure when they will make a new version of the connector that by the way is a tool not Manifold but Georeference.org

      My question is if there is any dll to link with the satellite images of Yahoo.
      We have Google Earth, VE, Yahoo Maps, but in certain cases, Yahoo satellite has high resolution images where GE has low. That's why my question and need to link with Yahoo satellite.
