Geo-Engineering & TwinGeo Magazine - Second Edition

We have been living an interesting moment of digital transformation. In every discipline, changes are going beyond the simple abandonment of paper to simplifying processes in search of efficiency and better results. The construction sector is an interesting example, which, driven by immediate future incentives such as the Internet of Things and digital cities, is on the verge of reinventing itself as the BIM maturity path allows it.

The standardization of BIM towards level 3 is so complementary to the concept of Digital Twins, that it has not been difficult for companies like Microsoft to find an advantageous position in a market that previously seemed only for engineers and architects. In my case, I am from a generation that saw CAD arrive as a solution to conventional drawing and that it was difficult for me to adopt 3D modeling because initially I found my hand drawings more attractive than tedious renderings. And although we believe that what we now do with Structural Robot, AecoSIM or Synchro is the best, looking back 25 years ago does nothing more than convince me that we are at the same turning point for a more integrated contextual management.

... in the Engineering approach.

Just now that the Gemini Principles seem to draw an alternate line to the methodology of BIM maturation levels, reviving an old concept called Digital Twins on which large companies in the industry are moving towards the fourth industrial revolution; and with the intention of continuing the theme of evolution of Geo-engineering, as a cover story we have decided the BIM in its conceptualization and significance.

We complement the edition with examples of innovations in the spectrum of Geo-engineering by software and service providers. The following case studies and articles stand out:

  • Intelligent facilities management, Hong Kong science park applying the Digital Twins concept.
  • Autonomous inspection of roads and linear infrastructures using Drone Harmony.
  • Christine Byrn tells us about the Digitally Advanced City in terms of reliable information when and where necessary.
  • LandViewer, with its functions for detecting changes from the browser.

As for interviews, the magazine includes interactions with the creators of Synchro, UAVOS and the first of José Luis del Moral with his Prometheus project of artificial intelligence applied to the legal framework.

... in the GEO approach.

On the other hand, seeing the departure from its conventional surveying scheme, and thinking about tackling the challenge of coupling the LADM standard with InfraXML is more than satisfactory. Standardization has finally penetrated as a common thread between the private sector and open source, some as protagonists, others as resignation that things will happen with or without them. Finally the gain is the successful experiences; Therefore, in the geospatial field and in continuity with the Cadastre line, we have included a case of success in land administration.

Additionally, the magazine that is enriched with embedded videos and interactive links, contains news from Airbus (COD3D), Esri in its collaboration with Mobileye, Hexagon (Luciad 2019 and M.App) and Trimble with its Catalyst services.

Maintaining our commitment to provide you with interesting stories in the Geo-engineering spectrum, we are pleased to present to you the second edition of the Geo-Engineering magazine for Spanish and TwinGeo for English speaking.
