Microstation-Bentley

Webinars, Will Bentley Work?

Today I attended the first online conferences that Bentley presented, as a new format to what was the annual conferences; what he has called BeConnected.

Functionality: Approved

media player

After my discomforts The last time i tried Registering, the good humor returned to me when I saw that via Media Player they have made the videos or live conferences work well. With the common problems to do printscreen, Because that is not possible.

media player Also the way of communicating and introducing the presentations is going well, a video of an elegant girl makes the transitions and I see no problem. Then, in a panel, the credits acquired for attending the courses are stored, although they are visible after 24 hours.

Of the best, that the presentations on demand, once registered and after the launch date, can be seen as many times as desired. The audio is very clear, it does not consume too much bandwidth and it is even possible to press the acceleration button so that it passes screens every 20 seconds of what would be live, which is practical if you want to see the PowerPoint and not the audio or take notes. You can also select the starting point on the progress bar. In general, the functionality is fine and I imagine they will be available for a long time.

In the case of those who are live, you can leave the play Will start when ready.

Theme: Approved

In this they are well, there is sufficient content for Roads, geospatial, structures, plants, mining, hydrosanitarios and networks of services.

At least the subject seems to be quite complete for the areas where Bentley has a specialty, which has brought him very loyal users who started with Microstation but now exploit particularized applications.

Audience: I have my doubts

There is something missing along the way, that feeling of going through a convention center hallway, with a Starbuck In hand and look into a room where the amount of audience and background PowerPoint invite you to take a look.

I suppose that from the other side must flow information of how many are connected seeing following the streamingBut in my opinion, the world is not ready for this, at least in live lectures. And with this I do not want to contradict my theories, I know that this is the way the world is walking in the training area, but I have serious doubts about what I have seen in a live conference, where many times it is difficult to attract 25 interested parties ( that they have nothing urgent to do), sustain their interest (which is supposed to exist from the moment they are there) and force them to comment (when they are in a hurry to get out of there and just come to ask for the business card). Now let's transform this to the new format, where the possibly 25 interested are more because they no longer need to be in the United States, but they have a very busy schedule, many of them do not have decent connectivity and that once the presentation has started they can simply click In another side.

Bentley's audience is not ESRI or AutoDesk, where I have had to fight and haggle for a place in a conference where there are up to 200 people. And Bentley should think about this, because online training is a good solution but experience says that for it to work there must be a very strong commitment.

A couple of years ago, Bentley did a survey among those attending the annual conferences and the 95% said he was satisfied; I suppose that in passing this exercise they will do it again and I can assure you that many will miss the Starbuck.

Content: should be seen

I have participated in the conference presented by Pat Filoteo, from Microsoft. Personally, disappointed in the poverty of presentation, this guy would have been left last and not at the opening of the geospatial line where he has come to say that warm water ... is warm.

The topic was interesting from the beginning (Space is not special) or as it was in English "Spatial is not special", This friend could use a PowerPoint course because his problem is of form, not so much background.

The essence of the subject is that the spatial is now simply a data, mainly in the web environment where standardization has been a job that have been commissioned small hybrid applications known as mashups. But on the subject, he has become poor, then I was waiting to see who asked or consulted; either I did not understand well, that the live opinions would be heard by all, or the silence was too long.

Interesting the comparison between the conventional way of seeing the space environment, in which there was:

  • Capture and normalization of coordinates
  • Create layers on a map
  • Get the data
  • Create layer overlay
  • Publish

While the future is simplified to tabular data, because the spatial side is just an attribute ... the deployment is a matter of conventional web.

It would not have been wrong, to show more than Printscreens of some websites that have integrated Virtual Earth. A graph, even with auto-shapes (instead of simple bullets), where it is shown that the data have been the same, that what we now have are some more tables that refer to the spatial environment, converted into a display, which is what is new and what makes us see spatially although we always think about it. But in the end, I can understand that for Microsoft, there is nothing special What to show In the space environment ... total Google already ate them alive.

A big wasted topic ... easy to say for us, we were the audience

Coming

Now I have to wait for the geospatial and territorial development that begins with 1 in July.
