Renewing the Life of a Laptop
After many days of suffering and the price of new laptops, I have decided to extend the life of the one I currently have. As an experience it has been complicated, although I think it could have been more difficult to have chosen to spend another $ 1,200 ... I think it hurt more to give away the "coffee pot" that I have revived, than to give up the new toy.
Now I tell you, how to revive a laptop: First understand that a Centrino is not an example of obsolescence, if I do not plan to migrate to Windows Vista, so the novelty that the Dual Core sounds has not been enough even though they are "cheap" in comparison with prices from three years ago. It is almost like giving life to a camel, it does not take up more water but takes away the weight of more.
1. New power cord
I do not know how nothing happened to the machine, because the cable had burst at the end due to that crazy habit of winding it like a garden hose. Buying a power cable is an urgent need, because making the patch, with the added cables can cause the processor to burn and that is how it was reached, also buying a GE equivalent of 100 pesos that has a regulation switch does not work, the voltage a laptop needs must be just right or it will be damaged.
Buy it in Latin American countries that do not have formal distributors can easily cost $ 50, so I went to the geek, 2 in the early morning, look in Froogle, and choose the first one that comes out: Amerimax was chosen.
Cost: $ 17.95
2. New Battery
The previous one barely lasted 20 minutes, since its useful life had been exhausted. Likewise, at Amerimax I was able to choose the exact part, for the exact model ... it has been uncomfortable that there is no way to safely dispose of these residues, they are still in the garage.
Cost: $ 39.95
3. Complete formatting
This has been the most complicated, not because it is difficult to format, but because of the information backup. The machine was slow due to having the system loaded with so much installation, testing, uninstallation ... burning a 19 GB backup (only the essentials) has taken me many hours, said that it has a DVD burner.
Cost: $ 0.00
In total, it cost me $ 74.35 including shipping costs using a section in the United States because in these mortal countries no shipments are easily received because geocoding is still done with WordPerfect.
mmm ... the machine has been like new, I do not think that for now it occupies more RAM or expand the hard disk. The cost… 12 sit-ins at McDonalds without making the potatoes big.
My triglycerides will thank you ... and my pocket ... ah! and the regret of not cooperating with the poverty reduction of Hewlet Packard 🙂
