Cold numbers from the Top 40 Geospatial on Twitter
In another time we did not believe that the activity of a Twitter account could become very important. But in a world where we are drowning in oceans of content, the three-hour life of a Tweet becomes attractive if you consistently and selectively extract those headlines that represent knowledge, rather than information.
This, added to the discipline of 2 to 5 daily publications and selective follow-up, creates an added value of more than interesting growth in follow-up, retweeting and favorites.
Twitter is a lot like reading the headlines in a print newspaper. Valuable for what is decisive, disappointing if its real content is poor. The next day they are hardly good for wrapping fish.
monitoring the Top 40 Twitter accounts In the geospatial sector, these are some cold numbers, as of June 29, 2015:

For an account to remain competitive, it must have a semi-annual growth of over 10%. Less than that means losing seats to the average that grows between 11% and 15%.
The table shows in the fourth column how the growth has been during these six months. In red the accounts with growth below 10%, in green those that have had growth above 25%.
Zone 1 – Top 1 – 50% of the traffic is concentrated in 6 accounts.
- This area changes little. The variant is @gisday, which grew 32%, displacing @gersonbeltran, which barely grew 7%.
Zone 2 – Transition – 15% is contained by three accounts.
They are bidding to continue ascending in an extremely difficult area. If the current trend continues, @MundoGEO could fall to this area due to low activity.
Zone 3 – The tail.
The rest of the accounts that constitute 35% of traffic, are separated into 4 segments:
Tail Q1
This represents 8% of the traffic, with growth within the normal range.
Tail Q2
6 accounts represent this 10%, with interesting growth from @masquesig (32%) and mappinggis (28%)
Tail Q3
7 accounts representing 9%. With accelerated growth @egeomate, @NewOnGIScafe and MappingInteract
Tail Q4
Here we only see accelerated growth in @COMUNIDAD_SIG

Predictions for December 2015
@mappinggis is going to move up to Tail Q1, displacing @URISA who will be falling to Tail Q2, after also being passed by @geomate.
@MundoGEO is going to fall into the transition zone, @gisday will be fighting to get out of the Top1 with MundoGEO, at the edge of 15,500 followers.
@COMUNIDAD_SIG will always climb about 5 seats in Tail Q4, with about 1,129 followers.
@orbemapa is going to drop to Tail Q4. -I don't think so anymore, with the change in routine that he has taken, he will exceed 3,200 followers, surpassing @Tel_y_SIG and Cadalyst_Mag. Always in the Tail Q3.
