Enter UTM coordinates to Google Earth, from Excel!

Google Earth can display the UTM coordinates and geographic, but it is not possible to enter them in UTM from the system and even if you do it you have to do it one by one.

This tool called Excel2GoogleEarth allows you to create points from an Excel table without the need to use a mapping program.

The program is an excel macro that builds an xml file. Among the information requested are:

  • Option to choose lat / long or UTM data, selecting the zone and the hemisphere.

Warning: the degrees must be decimal, the coordinates utm in meters, the datum wgs84, if you had them in another spheroid, such as GRS80 or Nad27 you would have to convert them.

  • Then you can choose the excel columns where the data is stored and in the next field the order.
  • It is possible to assign up to five data fields, including: x coordinate, y coordinate, elevation, point name, point id
  • In the next field you assign the path of the destination file and the name of the file to be generated. It also accepts a description of the file.
  • The column on the right shows the option to assign the elevation of the point, if we want it with an absolute altitude according to the data that we provide or if we want Google Earth to show it on the surface of the land
  • Among the best you have, you can choose the symbol among the different options that Google Earth has, and the size of this one.

Can generate problems, if the macros are disabled, so for this, in excel is selected:

Tools
Options
Security
Macro security
We activate the lowest, and we do accept
Then save the excel file
we close and we enter again.

From here you can download the application Excel2GoogleEarth

En this link can be viewed more Zonum applications; to see UTM coordinates in Google Maps you can use Coordinates.

While this tool is no longer available, this template of Geofumadas allows UTM coordinates to be exported to Google Earth

  1. They are projected coordinates, they could be UTM or an adaptation of your country.
The first coordinate is the Y by the range, because it is a coordinate that comes from the equator in case they are in the northern hemisphere.
The second is the X, by the range, since it is never less than 500,000 which is usually the false one.

You need to know the datum, which can be WGS84, NAD27 or any other.
You also need to know the zone, these coordinates are repeated in the 60 possible zones.

There are templates, which allow you to move these coordinates to geographic, but you take care of knowing that information; datum, zone and hemisphere.

  2. I need to know what types of cordenades these are, and I need to convert them to geographic degrees, minutes and seconds, where the first number is cordenada X and the second is cordenada Y. it is urgent

  6. Gee, Juan's proposal is so obvious, a pity that it comes so late when many had asked for the same thing.

  7. When I want to generate the KML file, it tells me that the beta license has expired and that it goes to the page http://www.zonums.com and look for an update… .what happens?….

  8. I occupy google earth Pro, but I meant that putting the data like -17.54737883, -63.70439899 are in a single column in the exel table. and in the column order option, they are two minimums.

    thanks for the advice.

  9. Alli does not let in anymore.
To enter a list occupies Google Earth Pro.
Or do the kml with a GIS program

  10. putting the followed coordinates separated by a comma, would be in a single column and the minimum are two, how do I solve it ??
    Thank you.

  11. Recall that in Google, is used in the order Lat / Long
It means that you first put the AND then the X

    excribes it to the form:

    -17.54737883, -63.70439899

Latitude is negative because it is below the equator
The length is negative because it is west of the Greenwich meridian.
You use the dot to separate decimals and commas to separate the two coordinates

Try to fall into the place you expect

  12. Friend I already converted my coordinates and left of these
    X 426361 and 8060186 to these Long. 63,70439899 Lat.17,54737883.
I created a Kml in geographic coordinates and it graphs me in the line of the Ecuador, that could be bad ??

    Thank you.

  13. I have to convert my UTM coordinates to Geographics.
    Many thanks!

  14. Directly in Google Earth, you can only enter them in geographic coordinates (decimal degrees such as 35.02, -15.423)

So you want to convert your projected UTM coordinates to geographic ones.

  15. But how are you entering them?
It could be affecting the separation format of thousands and decimals of your Windows.
This is fixed in Start> Control Panel> Regional Settings

The thousands separator should be the comma, the decimal point separator, and the comma separator.

    Check that out

  16. then there is the problem! I am entering the data directly.

what program should enter the data first ??
    Thank you very much.

  17. For starters, what program are you trying to enter?

If it is in Google Earth directly, there are not accepted UTM coordinates, only geographical coordinates.

  18. Friend thanks for the help, but I can not get the points to fall in the right place, what I have is a polygon with the coordinates:
    Coord. X Coord. Y
    425241 8059751
    425139 8059703
    424997 8059637
    424889 8059585
    424715 8059503
    424605 8059422
    424532 8059377
    424564 8059338
    424618 8059268
    424691 8059310
    414688 8059334
    424785 8059390
    424831 8059411
    424909 8059431
    425010 8059489
    425024 8059500
    425100 8059543
    425104 8059598
    425147 8059633
    425216 8059650
    425252 8059710
    425241 8059751

I'm desperate, what could be wrong? I made some adjustments in
google earth and nothing! I would really appreciate the help.
    Thank you

  19. No, not bad. In the southern hemisphere, the coordinate is East, South.

X, Y is equal to East, South. If you are in the southern hemisphere, at the height of Peru, your coordinates should be fine.

Take a look at Google Earth, it can cause confusion. The UTM coordinates always towards the north add in the format X, Y, the difference that in the northern hemisphere begin at the equator and are called coordinate N (North). In the southern hemisphere they start below Patagonia and are called coordinate S (South)

  20. then, could it be that my coordinates are wrong ?? What I can do?? Please, I would greatly appreciate the help, I have many points to go to Google Earth! Thank you.

  21. What happens is that in the southern hemisphere the Y coordinate is often used as the South. It should not cause you any trouble.

  22. I have this kind of coordinates: X: 425241
Y:8059751 are from a GPS gamin with WGS84 system, in the order column I need to put “West and South”, but there is only “East and North”.
that could make something change ??? Thank you.

  23. You are entering the data incorrectly, possibly confusing the units.

  24. hello, the program helped me a lot but when I import the .kml file to google earth it locates the place in e south pole !! could you help me??

  25. Apparently your operating system has as a separator of thousands the comma (,) and the decimal separator the point (.)

    then you should use for x = 671628.4564 Y = 4230634.274

  26. Good,

I can not enter the coordinates correctly. If for example mine were in UTM:
    x = 671628,4564 Y = 4230634,274
    30 Zone
    Latitude = North

Should I enter it with comma or dot? Must follow any specific format? When I export it I always put the points in:

  27. Good evening and I download the program but it appears that the license has expired, as I do p remove that part and access the program

  28. From the list, if they are in long, decimal, there are ways to convert it to kml to visualize it in Google Earth. The route, can not be done in Google Earth because you occupy the network of streets with properties for network analysis, that can be done but with a GIS program such as gvSIG, ArcGIS, etc.

  29. Hey.
I am writing to tell you that I have a large excel list of addresses with their coordinates and everything. I would like to know if there is any way to insert these addresses in Google Earth and also to identify the routes through them.
It would be great if someone can help me.

  30. Use the UTM transformation sheet to geographic, it is in the download section of this site.

  31. I have these coordinates apparently they are PSAD56, how can I convert them to UTM (WGS84)

  32. I have these coordinates (they are from Peru) from the northern part (Piura Talara), but apparently they are possibly coordinates of the PSAD-56
    1597538 133416

  33. Goodnight, one question I'm using the Epoint2GE program, the klm file generates but when I load it to Google Earth it does not show me anything, they could help me with this problem, since I do not know what's going on

  34. Goodnight, a question I'm using the Epoint2GE program, the klm file is generated but when I upload it to Google Earth it does not show me anything, they could help me with this problem

  35. In Google Earth you can not have the coordinate displayed, only the label or a point symbol.

If you wanted to display the coordinate, you would have to pass them to a column as an attribute and it will be displayed as a label.

To choose in Google Earth what you expect to be displayed, touch the layer, choose properties and then share symbology. There you can define the type of point you expect.

  36. Hi guys, I'm using the Epoint with UTM coordinates, but when I put it on google earth, the coordinates of the points disappear ... and only the labels appear at the o, o point. what I do? I need it urgently, so I would appreciate a lot if you could help me

    thank you very much!

  38. GOOD FOR EVERYONE, I AM NEW IN THIS, ADMINISTER A CARS WITH GPS BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW I DO TO DETERMINE THE EXACT SITE OF LOCATION OF THE VEHICLE WHEN I ONLY GIVE ME COORDINATES IN DECIMALS. IN WHICH PART I MUST ENTER THE LATITUDE AND LENGTH DATA. I WOULD IMMENSELY APPRECIATE THE PEOPLE WHO GENTIALLY WANT ME TO ILLUSTRATE ABOUT IT.
    THANK YOU

  39. What files do you mean?

If they are kml loaded, you must call them again.
If you mean the satellite image that is in the cache, yes, that is lost.

  45. I am working with the Epoint2GE very good tool, but I have a doubt so far I am graphing about 4 thousand points and I have no problem but when I select a 5th column that would be the one that contains the description of the point, at the moment of generating the KML file It throws me a dialog box that says that "the error '1004' has occurred at run time: Error defined by the application or the object" I would appreciate it if you could help me with this problem.

    greetings.

  46. to be able to use this version of the program you only have to change the date of your computer to the year 2007 and ready

  48. Hi. Ignorant question: I have 3.000 addresses (street and number) on an excel sheet, but I do not have the coordinates. Is there any way to import this list into Google Earth and to recognize the addresses to do a massive geocoding?
What I need is to avoid the manual geocoding of each point.
    Thank you.

  49. Because the author of those tools made them with an expiration date, and that time has passed.

  50. Please, someone can explain why when trying to create the KML file, SALE A WINDOW WITH THE LICENSE BETA EXPIRED. Is there any requirement in the system? sldos

  51. What happens is that the degrees must be in decimals, for example

    65.214

    It is in the warnings.

  52. Download the Epoint2GE file and try to convert longitude and latitude coordinates but the file you create does not have any position mark, the coordinates that you enter are these, for example 78 ° 07 ′ 42 ″ W, 05 ° 55 ′ 03 ″ S, could you help me with this.

  53. Download the beta, but where can I download it as free… .or will there be some way to leave it without expiring; /… greetings ^^

  54. You know I open the program but it appears to me as Expired oo

  55. I find it very good, but I would like to know if there is a method to pass the coordinates of the vertices of a pigeon created in google earth to an excel spreadsheet and then work with them in arcview.
