Globe in a dwg

This file contains a globe with an image placed as a material on its surface. It was initially published on the blog of Shaan Hurley.

How they did it?

They created a 3D spherical object

Then they created a new material, based on this image

Then they applied it as a material to the sphere, defining a cylindrical projection. To see it you have to apply a rendered view.

In this case I have opened it with Microstation XM because some strange reason made AutoCAD 2009 hang ... I think my laptop memory is asking for vitamins ... it seems that the same happened to Shaan. But never mind, it looks interesting.

From here you can download the compressed file that contains two dwg files and two images of this and another night view.
