Editing Objects with AutoCAD - Section 4

18.7 Edit Polylines and splines

If you want to convert a spline into a polyline, you can use the button to edit polylines, select a spline and then indicate in the command window that you want to do that conversion.

Conversely, it is not possible to use the button to edit splines and then selecting a polyline will give an error message.

On the other hand, the use of both commands is very similar, once the object to be edited is selected, the list of options can be seen in the command line window or, if dynamic parameter input is active, you can see it next to the cursor. Both lists have particularities depending on the object in question, but they also have common elements. For example, in both cases you will find one that will serve to close the form, both the spline and the polyline, you will also see an option that will allow you to edit the vertices, with which you can modify the shape of these objects. Edit vertices has several options to add and move them, among others.
Given the enormous variety of modifications that we can combine with these options in both types of objects, our suggestion is that you practice with them until you become familiar with their use. However, the editing of vertices and the modification of polylines and splines is usually done more frequently through grips, which are the subject of study in the next chapter.

18.8 Editing objects with parametric constraints

The creation of objects together with others that already contain parametric constraints, as we saw in chapter 12, imposes limitations on the form and / or disposition of these new objects.
On the other hand, the edition of an object with parametric restrictions can fall in any of the following two cases: That the edition does not contradict the imposed restriction, in which case, we can conclude it without further processing, or that the edition collides with the restriction. In that case, Autocad will present a message announcing said problem and the alternatives to solve them. Obviously, either we abandon that editing task or we eliminate the parametric constraints.
