4.4 Configuration of parameters

Obviously, it may happen that we have started our drawing with some parameters that, in the end, are not suitable for our work. If our drawing, for example, was in metric units and then it is necessary to pass it to the imperial system (from centimeters to inches), then a scale factor will have to be applied so that the drawing units reflect the correct proportions (the problem of scale will be treated at the time), and indicate the new units of measure with the option Aid to drawing-units of the application menu or the Units command. Both options open a dialog box that allows you to change these values.

The English equivalent of the Units command is UNITS. The Spanish version of Autocad allows the writing of the commands in English.

In turn, the limits of the drawing, which in principle only determine the area of ​​the drawing that can be restricted, can be modified with the command Limits (for English versions: LIMITS)

As you can see, the Limits command has two options in square brackets: [ON/OFF] (Activated/deactivated), if instead of the coordinates of the first point we write “ACT”, then we will activate the protection against drawing outside the limits. The “DES” option of the same command disables this protection.

I invite the reader to use the limits command and change the limits of the drawing. Then you must run it again and use its “ACT” option (Remember that instead of typing “ACT”, you can also choose this option by clicking the mouse on the new Command Line Window of the 2013 version). Then try to draw a line outside the bounds of the drawing and watch Autocad's response in the command window. Obviously, you should try that drawing again after using DES.
