3D Drawing with AutoCAD - Section 8

39.4.4 Faces

In turn, the faces of the mesh objects are susceptible of various modifications. In the first place, we can contract them. This means that the vertices of that face or edge will converge into one, disappearing the face or fusing the edge with the adjacent ones. Although the contraction of a face may not modify the overall shape of the mesh object, what is strictly achieved is the reconfiguration of its faces, which can be used for its subsequent modification.

Another modification in the arrangement of the faces in a mesh object is its rotation. If our mesh object has square faces, the rotation does not make any sense, but if we have triangular faces, the change is evident and its edges and adjacent ones will adapt its shape. Let's see how the next mesh cylinder is modified when some of its top faces are rotated.

Obviously it is also possible to divide and merge faces. In the first case, we can even indicate with the cursor the point at which point the dividing edge can go. In the second, we simply indicate faces that are adjacent, at the end of the command, they will become one.

Finally, the faces can be extruded, which is a well-mentioned concept.

39.4.5 Subobjects in meshes

As you may have already discovered, mesh objects also have selectable and editable subobjects as they did with other 3D objects. We can use either of the two methods of selection that we have seen before to indicate subobjects (that is, using CTRL or selection filters), which will present gizmos with which we can move, rotate or scale, faces, edges and vertices. We can also dispense with the predetermined gizmo and move the grip that each subobject presents. With what we have seen so far, I do not think it necessary to illustrate this last section and, on the contrary, I would invite you to try it out for yourself.
